Elisha Levy has won the battle to be named as Israel's new manager for the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Levy was one of five candidates interviewed by an Israel FA committee, all of them Israelis, and was chosen unanimously to succeed Eli Guttman.
Of the candidates, Levy, 58, had by far the most impressive CV.
Born in Jerusalem, he captained Maccabi Haifa and returned to the Greens as manager to claim two league titles in 2009 and 2011.
He led Israeli Arab team Bnei Sakhnin to promotion and a fourth placed Ligat Ha'Al finish and in his most recent job took Hapoel Beer Sheva to second place in Ligat Ha'Al.
IFA chairman Ofer Eini said: "We decided that Levy is the best man for the job. He is an experienced coach with ability and mental strength."
Levy has a daunting task ahead of him with Israel paired with Spain, Italy, Albania, Macedonia and Liechtenstein ahead of the qualifying campaign which begins in September.
Levy said: "I want to thank the members of the committee for handing me this challenging and demanding task. This is a dream job for me and the pinnacle of my career and I want to invite all Israel's players and fans to join me on a journey in which everything is possible."
