Society is often quick to judge and the Jewish community is no different. But in a week when childless women are in the news, perhaps it is time to consider feelings before jumping to conclusions.

In a community based around family, it is often hard to be childless, whether by choice or circumstance, and thoughtless comments, assumptions and judgments make it more difficult. The stereotypical Jewish mother obtains status vicariously through the achievements of her children, but stereotypes are made to be broken.

No one should rely on their children for satisfaction, just as no one is better or worse at their job because they are a mother. As our new Prime Minister might tell you.
