There are more romantic ways of celebrating a wedding anniversary than pounding the London streets for 26 miles.
But for Lauren and Jonathan Barr, who have a combined age of 99, Sunday's race was the second London Marathon they have run together, raising £6,700 for Chai Cancer Care.
Mrs Barr was the fastest of the two, coming home in four hours 45 minutes. She waited to greet her husband, who finished 20 minutes later.
The couple now hope to turn their attention to marathons in Paris and other overseas locations.
"Lauren now absolutely loves running and I am growing more keen on the sport," said Mr Barr, who is an estate agent. "The freedom of running, being in the fresh air in all weathers and finding a sport we can do together makes it all the more enjoyable."
The Barrs postponed a meal to celebrate their 22nd anniversary to a time "when we will be in more comfort and pain free".
