Leeds lawyer and rural campaigner Jerry Pearlman has scooped the Yorkshire Rural Lifetime Achievement award.
Mr Pearlman, deputy chairman of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and Honorary solicitor to the Ramblers Association, drafted the original “Right to Roam” legislation, which has enabled the public to enjoy and experience the countryside throughout England.
Mr Pearlman, a consultant with Zermansky and Partners Solicitors, tells People: “The award ceremony was a family occasion for us, as so many of our activities in the countryside have been.” The award was handed out by TV presenter Harry Gration. William Hague was among the guests.
Mr Pearlman serves on the Alwoodley Parish Council. He has overseen several legal cases relating to the countryside.
