Tributes have been paid to Robert Shrager, the first governors’ chair of the Jewish Community Secondary School, who died on Saturday evening, aged 60.

Despite struggling with illness for much of the time since his appointment in January 2008, Mr Shrager oversaw the establishment of the governing body for the cross-communal school, which will open in Barnet next year. He was also ultimately responsible for the recent appointment of the school’s first head, Jeremy Stowe-Lindner.

JCoSS president Gerald Ronson remembered “a good friend and ally. Robert brought to JCoSS both a great vision and professionalism. Our thoughts go out to his family.”

Mike Grabiner will take over as acting chair.
