Hollywood star Brad Pitt is to play the head of the Jewish resistance against the Nazis in Quentin Tarantino's new film, Inglorious Bastards. But in real life, is there anything Jewish about Pitt?

Rumours have been circulating on far-right websites that Pitt, like David Beckham, had a Jewish grandparent. Pitt does actually looks a little like Beckham (with sunglasses on). He was married to Jennifer Aniston who played a Jewish character called Rachel Green in Friends. He was engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow, who is half Jewish. He and Aniston were involved in One Voice, an organisation aiming to aim which aims to end the conflict in the Middle East.

Against:

Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, which is one the least Jewish towns in the USA. He was raised a Baptist by his mother, Jane, and father, William Pitt senior (he was named after his dad - not very Jewish). There is not a sniff of anything Jewish in Pitt's background. He looks marginally less Jewish than one would imagine a country boy from Oklahoma to look.

Verdict:

Goyishe he certainly is, but, hey, he's in a Jewish film.
