Cross country
Richard Goodman won the Intermediate Boys race representing Middlesex Schools at the English School’s Cross Country Championships at Stamford Hall near Loughborough.
He finished the 5.4 kilometre course in 17:29 and joins a prestigious list of winners including Sebastian Coe, Steve Ovett and Steve Cram.
As a top eight finisher, Goodman has been selected to represent England in the SIAB Home Countries International Schools Cross Country in Bangor.
The race concludes the cross country season and Goodman intends to return to 1,500 and 3,000 metres on track, as well as the Maccabiah Games. He will consequently miss the English Schools track and field championships in Sheffield on July 10.
● Manchester solicitor Walter Nicholls has been re-elected for his sixth term as Secretary of the Amateur Athletic Association, the oldest governing body for athletics in the world.
Nicholls has been involved in the administration of athletics for more than 50 years, including official roles at 2006 Commonwealth Games and several Maccabiahs.
