The five-year-old Shenley United community has celebrated its first barmitzvah — that of JFS and former Hertsmere Jewish Primary pupil Alexander Pasha, described as “the oldest Jewish boy in the village”. Alexander read his portion in front of 150 people, treble the normal congregation, in the shul’s temporary premises. His parents Stuart and Sharon were among the first families to move into the Shenley development with their then baby daughter Gabriella, now 15. They have been stalwarts of the community from the outset.
