A Chasidic school in Stamford Hill has assured Ofsted it does not hit children to discipline them after staff told an inspector they recognised a document that advocated corporal punishment.
Ofsted said the Wiznitz Cheder School for boys satisfied independent school standards on welfare and safety which were checked at an emergency inspection.
According to the inspection service, some staff members recognised a document shown them by the inspector which advocated corporal punishment. Ofsted did not explain where the document came from.
“However, they are adamant that this is not used in the school and does not influence the school’s behaviour policy,” Ofsted reported. “The inspection found no evidence to the contrary.”
The school was graded inadequate last year.
Last month, inspectors expressed concern at reports of boys being slapped or smacked at another Stamford Hill boys’ school, Talmud Torah Yetev Lev.
