Simon Marks Primary has opened a new Autism Resource Provision which will cater for a dozen pupils who find education in mainstream classes difficult.

The new educational unit at the Stoke Newington school includes two classrooms and a sensory room.

Headteacher Gulcan Metin Asdoyuran said the ARP - which has been named in honour of its long-serving trustee Peter Ohrenstein (pictured below) - was “a fantastic addition to Simon Marks”.

She said the school would be slowly building up to its full complement.

“Currently we have four and two new pupils are planned every half term,” she said. “Our children are mostly non-verbal at present.”
