The head of King Solomon High School in Redbridge, Michele Phillips, is to leave after less than three years in the post.
In a letter to parents on Tuesday, the chairman of the governors David Collins said she had made the decision that “now is the right time to move onto new opportunities within education” and would leave the school on May 15.
During her time since her arrival in September 2023, she had led “a number of important developments” which included “strengthening pastoral and safeguarding systems, introducing a clearer and more consistent behaviour approach, and leading significant work to develop the curriculum and teaching across the school”, he said.
She had also “overseen improvements to the school environment and infrastructure, including the creation of the new library and refurbishment of several key areas of the school, he added.
Under her leadership, the school “continued to build on its academic performance, particularly within the sixth form, where outcomes significantly improved”.
Wishing her success in the future, the governing board thanked her for her “energy, dedication, hard work and expertise”.
In a statement, Phillips said: “Now is the right time to step away from my role as headteacher. The school community is wonderful and I would like to thank the staff, senior leadership team, governors and parents for their support as we worked together to demonstrably improve the school.
"The pupils, both former and present, are what make the school and I have no doubt they will build on the platform created by our collective efforts to further improve the school.”
Parents will be notified shortly about interim leadership arrangements.
