Oxford Chabad Society welcomed the first Jewish Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow MP, to an end-of-term Friday night dinner.
Around 100 students, staff and Oxford Jewish community members heard Mr Bercow talk on the subject of "New Parliament, New Politics?".
He discussed how the expenses scandal had undermined the trust of the public in politics and should be viewed as a transition from traditional, executive-run politics to a new system of greater accountability.
Mr Bercow also spoke about his Jewish upbringing and was critical of Jews who conceal their identity when living in un-oppressed Britain.
