A Hasmonean High School girl flew the flag for Britain in today’s international Bible quiz.

Batsheva Schwab competed against 15 other students in the World Chidon Hatanach, achieving sixth place.

Traditionally held in Jerusalem on Yom Ha’atzmaut, the event instead was run digitally.

Batsheva was one of the three senior winners of the British heats run in London earlier this year and then excelled in a written semi-final which was held remotely.

Rabbi Eliyahu Silverman said “We are all very proud of Batsheva’s achievement. She has worked extremely hard and this is certainly a well-deserved honour.”

Samuel Maierovits, Chidon Hatanach UK co-ordinator, said: “Her knowledge, passion and appreciation for Tanach study was clear for all to see. Following the success of this year’s competition, we hope to encourage more UK Jewish schools to get involved with this important and meaningful project in the years to come.”

The event, which began at 9 this morning, can be watched on Youtube.
