One of the biggest challenges of starting student life is setting up home independently, away from the comfort and luxury provided by your family.
But this year there is an alternative to shlepping through Ikea, eating from a saucepan because there are no plates and using a sleeping bag because you have no bed sheets.
A range of special starter packs, developed by Benjy Sandford, a second year student at Birmingham University, and backed by the Union of Jewish Students, will solve all your potential domestic problems.
Divided into three main sections – bedroom, bathroom and kitchen – the comprehensive packs contain more than 120 items including double sets of kitchenware, bedding, towels, and can be ready and waiting for your arrival on campus.
The packs cost £320, are available to order at www.ujs.org.uk, and can be delivered to Hillel Houses at campuses in Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester or London.
Tribe, the United Synagogue's youth division, ran a scheme this summer using seven vans to deliver around 750 campus gift packs to sixth-form members who finished school this year.
