JFS has smashed all expectations and raised over £1,000,000 in a campaign aimed to prevent the secondary school from facing a financial crisis.

In 36 hours, the school received funds from over 3,500 donors from its “More than” campaign, which saw some 500 JFS families champion the cause by hosting individual fundraising pages.

Headteacher Dr David Moody said he was “blown away by the generosity of the JFS community”, telling the JC: “I can’t tell you how much we appreciate every single donation and the dedication of our parent body. We’re delighted to have hit our target. It’s an incredible achievement.”

The money raised will go towards wellbeing provision, SEND facilities, Jewish studies activities and after-school clubs. It will also help ensure that the school is able to retain its team of expert lead practitioners rather than having to employ trainee teachers.

The financial worries stemmed from an inflation-linked mortgage which could have left the 300-year-old school with over £6 million of debt when it comes to an end in four years’ time.

The school is now hoping to attract external financial backers to provide the additional funds.
