Stanmore Synagogue member Councillor Eric Silver is the new Mayor of Harrow — the fifth Jew to hold the post since the council’s establishment in 1965.
A pharmacist by profession, he has been involved in local politics since 1990 when he was elected for the Conservatives in Headstone North ward. He says his faith has provided “a sense of family and morality — a shared community in prayer”. Evelyn, his wife of 46 years, will be the mayoress.
“Harrow is a diverse borough,” Councillor Silver said. “I am looking forward to learning from the different traditions, but also helping to bring everyone together under the common banner of being a Harrow resident.”
