Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor is due to arrive in Belfast on Wednesday to begin a two-day tour of Northern Ireland.
He is expected to hold private meetings with Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams and members of Castlereagh Borough Council.
On Wednesday evening he will speak at a dinner held by the newly-formed Northern Ireland Friends of Israel group.
Mr Prosor will also meet leaders of post-conflict research centres to discuss ways in which Israel and the Palestinians can learn from the Irish peace process.
Mr Adams visited the Middle East last month, but was refused a meeting with the Israeli government after earlier holding talks with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza.
Today the ambassador welcomed hundreds of guests from political, public and communal life to a major reception to mark Israel's 61st anniversary.
For the second year, Foreign Secretary David Miliband was a special guest at the heavily policed reception in central London. Mr Miliband paid tribute to the strong links between Britain and Israel and congratulated the Jewish state on its celebrations.
