Around 50 safeguarding and pastoral leaders from Jewish schools attended a special briefing organised by PaJeS in the wake of the national campaign to expose the sexual abuse of girls.

The Everyone’s Invited website has published thousands of anonymous testimonies of abuse, including several posted by students who identified themselves as pupils from Jewish schools.

The incidents ranged from being groped at school to sexual assault at parties.

Detective Inspector Mark Rogers briefed staff on the latest guidance from the Metropolitan Police on child exploitation, while Ilana Hutchinson of Jewish Women’s Aid advised schools on how to go about establishing a consent culture.

A special version of the London Child Exploitation Protocol, produced by the Met in association with PaJeS, is to be distributed to schools and community groups.

Pajes is also holding an information evening for parents on May 25, citing the need for parents to take a leading role in protecting their children.

The meeting will hear from young people about their experiences.

Rabbi David Meyer, executive director, of PaJES, said, “A key priority for our community and our schools must be keeping our children safe. At the heart of this is education at home and in school.

“Among the fundamental tenets of Jewish thought is the requirement to love your neighbour as oneself, which encompasses the importance of respecting the personal space of others and protecting the rights of each individual.”
