How you met
Donna: On a blind date nearly three years ago set up by mutual friends — who like to remind us of it! We met outside Holborn station and went to Sway for drinks. I had been on a few disappointing dates and was surprised to find that we instantly clicked.
The proposal
I had it in my that head he would propose either on our three year anniversary (mid-November) or my birthday (end of November). So it took me by surprise. Arriving home one day, I saw a trail of roses leading to Matt, who was on one knee. I walked towards him hesitantly not really comprehending what was happening — and also balancing my shopping bags and trying not to smudge my nails. Next thing, he asked me to marry him. I was just standing there in shock, repeating: ‘Does this mean we’re engaged?’
The wedding
We wanted to avoid a long drawn out engagement so it will be in May at Sopwell House in Hertfordshire. Sopwell was the place I always wanted to get married in, from the times I went there for tea with my mum and loved it. Matt also arranged a surprise tea there for me a couple of years ago for my birthday so the venue holds happy memories. My sister Lisa will be my maid of honour and Matt’s nieces Noa and Eden will be our bridesmaids. We are undecided about the honeymoon mainly because I would like to go somewhere very hot and relaxing and Matt wants somewhere vaguely interesting. We will need to compromise.
