Father and son Joel and Boaz Greenwood have raised more than £4,000 for Jewish Care from a 145-mile “Coast to Coast” cycle.
The north Londoners have a strong personal connection to the charity as Mr Greenwood’s father Jeffrey was Jewish Care’s first co-chair, having chaired its precursor the Jewish Welfare Board.
Although Joel Greenwood cycles to work regularly, both he and Boaz, a JFS pupil, embarked on a strict training regime to prepare for the hilly course and long days in the saddle.
They began in Whitehaven, riding on through the Lake District, the North Pennines and County Durham before arriving in Sunderland, which had been home to family members.
“We had three fantastic days,” Mr Greenwood said. “In total, we climbed more than 12,300 feet. Despite some very grey skies, the weather was kind to us and it only rained heavily once.”
