Silence was golden for Evie Salama, 12, whose 12 hours of quiet raised in excess of £2,000 for Jewish Care’s Holocaust Survivors’ Centre in Hendon and Age UK Camden’s Good Neighbours project.
The non-speaking test was part of Evie’s preparations for her batmitzvah at Belsize Square Synagogue later this year.
To communicate, she used a combination of sign language and a whiteboard and pen.
“It was fun but I am probably not going to be quiet ever again,” Evie said.
She had been “really inspired by meeting Gerda [Oblath], who is a member of our synagogue and of the Holocaust Survivors’ Centre”.
Evie is putting together and delivering gift packs for members of the centre.
