North London synagogues feed the needy over holiday period

Barnet and Edgware shuls organised cookery sessions to help those less fortunate

articlemain

Over the holiday season, volunteers of all ages from the Barnet and Edgware United congregations joined Project Chesed and Tikun’s joint cookery sessions for those in need.

The Edgware community donated their food, including a vegetarian Shepherd’s pie, to the Homeless Action in Barnet Day Centre. The Barnet team cooked 30 portions of vegetable lasagne and apple crumble for needy members of their own community. Edgware also collected socks and underwear for donation to the day centre.

The support continues into 2017 with Muswell Hill holding a cookery session at the beginning of February.

Michelle Minsky, head of US Chesed said: These cookery sessions are fantastic in so many ways. Not only do they provide food to people who need it. They also are sociable, fun and put the kitchen facilities in our shuls to good use.”
