Kenton United Synagogue kickstarted its Key Workers Kiddush project by delivering ten kosher pizzas to a local hospice.
Rabbi Yehuda Black, who came up with the idea, and shul chair Rachelle Goldberg took the pizzas to St Luke's Hospice in Kenton as a thank you to the medical and administrative staff.
“We were concerned that the hospice probably hadn’t received so much funding with all the attention being given to the hospitals,” Ms Goldberg explained. The intention is to deliver meals every week to different key workers in the locality.
“This week we are going to be visiting St Mark’s Hospital,” Ms Goldberg added. “Then we are going to do the police.”
Funding for the scheme has come from members’ donations.
“It is about not looking inwards but outwards at what is happening,” she stressed. “It is saying how much we appreciate what the key workers have been doing at this challenging time.”
The shul has been running a diverse array of programmes during the lockdown, including a popular Zoom lecture series.
