Employment support service Work Avenue hosted the annual Women in the Workplace conference, offering "everything for every woman who works or wants to".

Addressing a record 175 delegates, Board of Deputies CEO Gillian Merron spoke of her own career successes and struggles, after which a series of workshops covered issues such as career change, starting a business, smart social media and being a woman in a man’s world.

Entrepreneur Emma Gee delivered a workshop on business start-up, drawing on her own experience in the jewellery business. She said afterwards: “Many of the delegates I met were considering a new business venture.  It was great to feel that I was able to offer useful advice."

Delegate Suzanne Jacobs attended the session on networking, "which I found tremendously helpful. I’ve already taken some of the ideas on board.”
