Israel charity helps build a future for at-risk children

The organisation Youth Aliyah transforms the lives of vulnerable and at-risk children escaping from unimaginable situations, in Israel and from across the world

articlemain

In 1933 Youth Aliyah was born out of a need to protect children fleeing from the horrors of the Holocaust.

Today we continue to transform the lives of vulnerable and at-risk children escaping from unimaginable situations, in Israel and from across the world.

Children are provided with a home for life in one of our five youth villages and two leadership programmes. They receive the supportive and therapeutic interventions that allow them to make the most of the education they receive; ultimately letting them achieves goals they would otherwise never have imagined.

Today people are often shocked to learn that more than 400,000 children in Israel have been recognised as ‘at-risk’ by the authorities. Our Villages can offer space to some of these children, but what about the rest?

In 2006, Israel’s Ministry of Education recognised the odds-defying outcomes being seen in our Youth Village’s graduates so they urged Yemin Orde, one our five Youth Villages, to extend the methodology it had developed to reach thousands of other at-risk children throughout Israel. Soon after, Village Way Educational Initiatives was launched.

This methodology is based on decades of experience working with immigrant and at-risk children, together with academic research. The innovative Village Way is designed to enhance the spiritual well-being, character development and leadership potential of Israelis who come from backgrounds of extreme poverty and trauma.

Trained educators spend three years working intensively with staff at each of the schools that join our programme, teaching them about the 10 Core
Components of the Village Way and helping them to implement the strategies. Currently the Village Way is working with 36 communities serving at risk children all across Israel. We have touched the lives of over 10,000 children so far and by 2020 we hope to impact over 25,000 children working with 20 more communities.

Together we can create a better future for the children of Israel visit. For more information visit  www.youthaliyah.org.ukfacebook.com/YouthAliyah or  @YouthAliyah.
