Hairdresser to the stars enjoys a whisky at 107

Ben Raymond celebrates birthday at London care home

articlemain

The oldest resident of the Nightingale care home in Clapham has celebrated his 107th birthday.

Ben Raymond moved into Nightingale in 2012 with his wife Millie when both were over the age of 100. Millie died soon afterwards - they had been married for 76 years, having met at a dance academy in Piccadilly.

Mr Raymond enjoyed a successful career as a West End hairdresser. Celebrity clients included Charlton Heston, who came in for a cut before starting the promotional campaign for Ben Hur in 1959. The cut cost two shillings (ten pence) but the actor left a £10 tip.

He continues to indulge his love of whisky, enjoying a nightly tipple before bedtime.
