The absence of sunshine did not prevent golfers from smiling as Stuart and Janet Cohen’s 27th annual golf day in aid of Langdon kicked off in Aldenham.
Over 80 golfers putted their way around an 18-hole course and then enjoyed a delicious evening meal. Langdon chief executive, Dianne Martin, told the diners: “This last year has been one of the hardest for Langdon in many ways because of the wider economic landscape. There have been brutal and severe cuts by government to statutory funding and support. There have been significant and profound changes to the care act. We continue to feel the ongoing impact from the economic downturn in recent years.
Langdon member Simon Houlton topped the evening off with a speech about his experiences with the charity and his journey with Langdon back into work.
He said: “Over the years I have lived in the Langdon community, my confidence has grown and I have been able to learn new skills and have new opportunities. I am very proud to be starting my new job and coming off benefits for the first time in 13 years.”
The golf event raised over £9,000 for Langdon charity which supports adults and young people with learning disabilities.
