The Jewish Volunteering Network is mourning the loss of its chairman, David Lazarus, who has died after contracting coronavirus

In a statement, the network, which matches volunteers to organisations, said Mr Lazarus “cared passionately about promoting and expanding volunteering in the Jewish community and beyond.”

A trustee since its launch, he had chaired it for seven years.

A marketing professional, Mr Lazarus responded to a growing need for volunteers, JVN said, driving it “to address and take on wider responsibilities within the Jewish community across the local boroughs and nationally”

He was also vice-chair of the Research Institute for Disabled Consumers, whose chairman Phil Friend said he was "a tremendous advocate for our work and gave me personally unlimited and unwavering support.

"We will all miss him tremendously, and I feel I speak for everyone connected with RiDC, when I say that David made a real difference to our work and to all the people we seek to help."
