Golders Green United Synagogue had a special guest at their Yom Yerushalayim event on Sunday night, which marked the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.

Mark Regev, the Israeli ambassador to the UK, spoke to an audience of around 100 people about how a united Jerusalem benefited all religions.

That a country should choose its own capital city was widely accepted, he added. Israel considers Jerusalem to be its capital, but that status is not recognised by the international community.

After his speech, the ambassador took questions from the audience.

Rabbi Harvey Belovski, the rabbi of Golders Green Synagogue, thanked both Mr Regev and the shul committee which organised the event.

He presented the ambassador with a copy of a book about the shul’s history, which was commissioned to mark its centenary in 2015.
