Kayla Sussman has come up with an original recipe for fundraising to mark her batmitzvah at Finchley Reform Synagogue this weekend.

The JCoSS pupil has already raised more than £2,000 from a charity cookbook featuring favourite dishes from friends and family. The 90 kosher recipes include “grandma’s chicken soup”, “Geraldine’s quinoa and date salad” and “Isabelle’s nutty rusks”.

Proceeds will benefit Click, a charity supported by MyIsrael, which empowers elderly people in Israel to lead healthy and fulfilled lives.

Kayla said she intended to keep selling the cookbook while the demand was there.

“I chose to donate the money to Click because I have four happy grandparents and I would hate to think they were ever feeling lonely. So I want to make sure other grandparents never feel alone either.”
