AJEX, the Jewish Military Association, is launching “AJEX NextGen”, an initiative aimed at engaging and inspiring younger member of the community.
It will bring cadets, young professionals, university students and others together with serving personnel and veterans through sponsored events and outreach campaigns.
The first event is an online talk tomorrow [Thursday 16 April] with Lieutenant Colonel Danny Yank, who is currently serving in the British Army and has more than two decades of service under his belt.
Speaking in a personal capacity, Yank will explore the realities and meaning of serving in today’s climate from the perspective of being a member of the Jewish community.
Topics for discussion include the path from a childhood in north London to a life in uniform, contending with a dual British and Jewish identity, and confronting antisemitism and why standing up to it matters.

AJEX’s CEO Fiona Palmer said that AJEX NextGen “represents the next chapter for our charity”, as they prepare for a time where it is no longer possible to hear from British war veterans.
She continued: “We are incredibly fortunate that we can still hear directly from veterans who have lived these experiences, but we know this will not be forever. That is why it is so important to empower the next generation to take on the baton of remembrance to stand up to hate and to ensure these stories and values are never lost.”
The initiative as a whole will provide a space for all involved to honour the past, consider identity, and explore leadership and service.
