A civic Shabbat for the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Councillor Peter and Barbara Arnold, was held at the United Hebrew Congregation. Other dignitaries to attend included the Chief Constable of Northumbria Police, Mike Craik, Councillor John Shipley, leader of the City Council. Synagogue president Victor Gallant presented Councillor Arnold with a book, The Jewish World: 365 Days.
