University Jewish Chaplaincy has raised more than £200,000 at its first gala dinner for more than 20 years.

The event was held in honour of Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks who told the 350 guests of his commitment to supporting Chaplaincy's work on campuses, where, he said "Jewish identities are either made or lost".

Lord Sacks said he had encouraged his predecessor Lord Jakobovits to support the charity's creation more than 40 years ago.

Guest speaker Lord Triesman, former FA chairman and government minister, voiced his concerns over the increasing hostility towards Jewish students and supporters of Israel on British campuses.
