A Spurs scarf was Ephraim Mirvis's memento of the first visit by a Chief Rabbi to the St Annes community in almost a quarter of a century.
Rabbi Mirvis was presented with the scarf - embroidered with a Star of David and his initials - after conducting the induction of Rabbi Ephraim Guttentag as minister of the Lancashire congregation.
Monday's event was also a celebration of the golden jubilee of the synagogue building.
Shul president and fellow Tottenham supporter Robert Pinkus said the evening was unlike any he could remember from his years with the congregation. Whereas fewer than 20 people normally attended Friday night services, 250 turned out for the induction.
"It was a landmark event for our community. We haven't received a visit from a Chief Rabbi for 23 years, so the shul was pretty close to being full. It was like the old days," Mr Pinkus said.

As for the scarf, Rabbi Mirvis had promised to wear it to Spurs games. "I told him that I hope it brings us the mazel we so richly deserve, but which we don't get."
Rabbi Mirvis praised the contribution of the minister and his wife, Malki, in their first year at St Annes.
Mr Pinkus highlighted Rabbi Guttentag's "approachability, halachic knowledge and his voice".
He added that former Blackpool Synagogue members who had joined following its closure in 2012 had become "very active in our congregation.
"A number of them are now taking leading roles, which is really helpful."
