Many of this season's invitations are going for a vintage look - as seen in U-Name-It's floral lace pocket design. Pearl and diamanté buckles add to the effect, as do printed graphic motifs embellished with different "jewels".

A string of diamanté can be added to a contemporary invitation to lend a sophisticated sparkle.

Another trend is to use interesting backing cards, such as textured natural papers, or all-over print designs, says Linda Minde, U-Name-It's owner. These are mounted on heavy board to give the invitation a high-quality feel. For bar and batmitzvahs, strong bright colours make an impact and these colours can be carried through to the table décor on the night.

If you are having a celebration abroad, your guests may like to start their travel planning early, so a save-the-date card is useful. Novelty designs in the shape of a calendar or luggage tags are memorable and fun.
