Chancellor George Osborne backed a small business venture by a Cheshire Reform congregant in his Tatton constituency.
Mr Osborne opened Stephen Higham’s kosher-style deli in Alderley Edge, which will serve bagels with classic fillings and salt beef sandwiches.
Aldeli stands on the site of a former car showroom owned by the Highams, who continue to operate a vehicle servicing and repair business.
Mr Higham said customers could enjoy a bagel while their car was washed or serviced.
“The motor trade is one of the most badly hit industries and I approached the Chancellor in a letter saying maybe he should make a showcase of people who have reinvented themselves [in business] because you can’t sit around in this recession and complain. George was impressed and said he would be bringing his kids in to eat.”
