Chai Cancer Care has opened a new south Manchester branch serving cancer patients and their families.
Operating from two refurbished rooms at the Morris Feinmann Home in Didsbury, the charity will provide counselling, massage, reflexology and acupuncture to cancer sufferers.
London-headquartered Chai set up its first satellite services outside the capital in Heathlands in north Manchester little over a year ago. It was followed by a service in Glasgow in May through a partnership with Jewish Care Scotland. Chai says the latest development stemmed from a lecture it held at South Manchester Synagogue in Bowdon.
"Chai was asked to provide its expertise and care to the south Manchester community," said the charity's Vicky Brown. "We felt that to go to Heathlands for clients in the south is a long journey and we try to make our services as accessible as possible." A Manchester-based client service manager will run both the city's branches.
Alan Wilkins, chair of trustees at Morris Feinmann, added: "We've invested in refurbishing the room especially. We really hope we will have a long and meaningful relationship with Chai."
