● Students from the Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) fraternity in Leeds raised more than £400 for charity at a poker night.
Around 30 students joined the game, held at a casino in the city, last week. It was the fraternity’s first fundraising event – it is hoped £5,000 will be raised in total this academic year.
Frat member Joey Barnett said: “We see a need to give back and help as many charities as we can.”
● Jelly shots and mulled wine were on the menu at Imperial College JSoc’s annual shabbaton dinner.
Around 30 students attended the Friday night dinner at New West End Synagogue in Bayswater, west London, with 20 returning the following day for Shabbat lunch.
JSoc president Noah Nathan said: “It was lovely to spend a Shabbat together with the JSoc so close to campus. So many of us had such a good time.”
● Cambridge JSoc hosted the latest leg of UJS’s Jewniversity Challenge competition.
More than £100 was raised for mental health charity Mind, with 40 students taking part in the event.
Party poppers were used in lieu of buzzers for teams answering questions. Jonathan Metzer, semi-finalist in last year’s series of University Challenge, acted as question master.
● Birmingham chaplain Esther Cohen hosted a special evening focussing on helping students find houses and housemates for the next academic year.
The Esther’s Café event at Birmingham Hillel included talks by representatives of Birmingham University’s Guild of Students housing services and letting agency departments.
