A Labour MP has written to Transport Secretary Justine Greening asking why an MP at the centre of a Nazi-themed stag night scandal offered two contradictory explanations for his behaviour.

In a letter to the JC, Aidan Burley, Conservative MP for Cannock Chase and parliamentary private secretary to Ms Greening, apologised for his participation in a party where one guest donned SS uniform and others toasted Hitler. He said he wished he "had left [the Val Thorens party] as soon as [he] realised what was happening".

But Dudley North Labour MP Ian Austin, whose constituency is near Mr Burley's, said he had been given a different explanation by the Transport Secretary.

He wrote to Ms Greening saying Mr Burley's comment was "the opposite of the explanation you gave me, which was that he had left when this disgraceful behaviour occurred".
