Tonge tied

November 24, 2016 22:53

I was lost for words when I read that Jenny Tonge wants Israel to disprove allegations that its medical teams used the opportunity to harvest organs while on a humanitarian mission in Haiti. "To prevent allegations such as these — which have already been posted on YouTube — going any further, the IDF and the Israeli Medical Association should establish an independent inquiry immediately to clear the names of the team in Haiti," said Tonge.

But then I realised that I might be able to conduct an ad hoc inquiry of my own.

My good friends Tammy Dolgin, (see my recent blog post) and Dr. Harvey Belik have just returned to Israel from their medical humanitarian mission to Haiti. They're a bit exhausted after their incredible efforts to assist Haitian survivors and they have gone straight back to work here, but I'll call them up as soon as I can and tell them about Tonge's concerns.

I'm sure they won't mind me asking them whether in addition to treating the very many wounded survivors, and helping to set up a new school for local children, many of whom are now orphans, they managed to find the time to harvest organs from dead bodies.

I'll let Jenny Tonge know their response.
