JC Art Critic Julia Weiner recommends:
R B Kitaj at the Royal Academy of Arts
This major retrospective of the American artist's work is an intergral part of the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. Kitaj, who died last year, vowed never to show his work in the UK after critics slammed a previous exhibition. Now the RA has put 29 of his works on display, ranging from a painting done when he was still a student to a group of small works done in the two years leading up to his death. Included are some pastels and drawings which are among the most beautiful works on paper made in the last half-century.
Until August 17. Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, London W1. 020 7300 8000, www.royalacademy.org.uk
