Jewish groups in South Africa have visited refugee camps and distributed aid to victims of the anti-foreigner violence that has swept the country in recent weeks.

The wave of violence that erupted in Durban nearly a month ago has left several foreign nationals dead and forced thousands to flee for their lives.

The current onslaught, directed mostly at black African migrants, echoes the xenophobic riots of 2008, which left 62 people dead and scores wounded.

As it did seven years ago, the South African Jewish community is now trying to tackle the growing humanitarian crisis.
