Yanveh College teacher Mr Brodkin, 23, is fighting Hale ward for the Labour party in a by-election. An Oxford graduate who lives in Edgware, key issues include “a strong commitment to faith schools” and a shortage of affordable housing.
A Conservative councillor for 12 years, the South West Essex Reform member is fighting Chigwell Row ward. He has represented the shul at the Board of Deputies since 1996 and two years ago was the first Jewish chair of Epping Forest District Council. Three candidates are standing, and he says they “desperately don’t want the BNP” to win seats.
Oxford graduate Ben Glassman, a Conservative, is standing in the Loughton Fairmead Ward where he is fighting BNP candidate Alex Copland.
Ms Cohen, 19, is fighting Loughton Forest Ward for the Tories. She is up against the BNP’s Paul Evans. Her father Mitchell Cohen, a barrister, has been a councillor for Loughton St Mary’s ward since 2002.
Mr Jackson, the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Netteswell Ward, is former chair of Harlow Council. He says they are “fortunate” not to have the BNP standing in Harlow. He is vice-chairman of Harlow Jewish Community.

The Conservative candidate for Borehamwood Cowley Hill ward has lived in Elstree since 1964. Having served as deputy mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood last year, she is now hoping to follow her daughter, Hannah David, on to the council.
The 38-year-old is a Conservative councillor for Borehamwood Hillside ward who has held the planning and enforcement portfolio on Hertsmere Council since last May.
Mr Patnick, who is standing for the Conservatives in Aldenham West, says the growing Jewish community in Radlett “brings planning issues” including plans for Radlett United Synagogue to expand and be upgraded.
An airline pilot, Mr Zucker is standing for the Conservatives in the Brookmeadow ward, in the heart of the Borehamwood Jewish community.
Councillor Feeney, the Labour candidate in Brookmeadow ward, won a by-election last year. A member of the planning panel, he is opposed by Andrew Zucker.
A Conservative in the Bushey Park ward, she is a grandma and former political adviser in Brent. She previously served as a councillor in Hertsmere from 1974-86.
Mr Richards Gray, who is Mrs Silver’s Lib-Dem opponent in Bushey Park, is married to Lib-Dem councillor, Laura Gray and chair of the Bushey Lib-Dems.
The Lib Dem candidate for Bushey Heath ward hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father, Laurence Brass, who served on Hertsmere council for 10 years. Aged 26 and an estate agent, he did a military training course with the Israeli Army.
