When I married my husband 18 years ago he made it very clear that although he had never been to Israel, he always had a burning desire to go with the intention of building a life there. At the time we were both fairly successful business people, and while moving would mean leaving our home, our families, our son and everything that we held dear - his wish was something more of a dream without the expectation of it ever becoming a reality.
Three years later my husband was blown up while performing a Fireworks display for the Annapolis Military Academy in the states ( .. he being a professional pyrotechnician, his story can be read in the July issue of the London Financial Times). Obviously our entire life changed at this point.
For the next 10 years or so we worked towards his recovery, built another business to cover the increasing medical costs and pretty much put our plans for Israel on the back burner.
Since we were at that point living in the states with no Jewish community within 100 kilometers we had many challenges and nowhere really to turn for spiritual guidance or support. But with my husbands extensive injuries it became necessary for us to reconsider the direction of our lives, and explored making Aliyah. The more we explored, the more we realized that the 'values' and direction of our life in general had absolutely nothing to do with how governments were run - at every level; and that we were choking from the accumulation of 'stuff' that we really didn't need. It was time to go home to Israel.
This year - 2009, we made Aliyah and while we continue to go through many challenges we have found many excellent contacts and learned a great deal about shipping, finding and buying a home and getting a mortgage, setting up a business, dealing with attorneys and the government bureaucracy (every ministry is its own government under the umbrella of the primary government body) ... and many other things that may be of value to others considering relocation.
If you are satisfied with the direction of the world, of your country's political and social stand on Israel and the Jewish people .. by all means, please ignore this post.
However, if you see the cycle of history repeating itself and are at all concerned about the welfare and future of your family please feel free to contact me for any assistance or information I can provide. I have been blessed with a career which enables me to connect with many people in many different occupations across the country, and it would be a great pleasure to help in any way I can.
