If ever the JC made an important innovation it was to encourage the community to give to less 'fashionable', smaller causes.
I had not thought too much about Jewish Women's Aid for some years and was glad to get a nudge in the group's direction this yomtov.
However, I was deeply saddened by the contents of the thank you letter Brian and I received by way of receipt.
What upset me was to read that its kosher and observant refuge for eight women and 14 children "is nearly always full" and that as staff "raise awareness about the issues surrounding domestic abuse, our client numbers increase".
I wonder what sections of the community the JWA group represent and why those numbers are increasing.
Perhaps a spokesperson from the group would like to drop by this blog and share some thoughts with me.
