I love how Jewish food gets everywhere.
Here are a few international stories I've enjoyed this weekend:
Tokyo Jewish deli:
Tablet magazine [add link] reported that San Francisco deli chain, Wise Sons, has opened a branch in downtown Tokyo in the basement of 37-storey skyscraper, the Marunouchi building. The menu is identical to the US version with the odd Japanese twist
on the basement floor of the Marunouchi Building, a 37-story skyscraper, at the newly opened Japanese branch of San Francisco’s Jewish-style deli Wise Sons. DIners can enjoy pastrami sandwiches, bagels and lox, and matcha-flavored babka.
There was no matzah supplier in the city, so they decided to bake and grind their own to make matzah balls. They buy in bagels and challah, but smoke their own salmon. The salmon bagel is not served as a sandwichas we would expect, but open, like a Scandi sandwich, because the locals prefer to eat their food that way.
