Wanted: an Israeli leader who will show some initiative

After joining the walk for Gilad Shalit on Sunday and attending the memorial today for Benji Hillman, killed in the Second Lebanon War just three weeks after his wedding, I am profoundly depressed.

This article in today's Haaretz by David Grossman, whose son was also killed in the war, really resonates with me. We need a radical change in thinking in Israel. We need to be proactive and creative rather than reactive; we need to force events rather than have change forced upon us.

Binyamin Netanyahu and President Obama may have patched up their differences when they met today. But will it encourage Netanyahu to show the leadership Israel needs in these difficult times?
