So who exactly has spoken out against Barack Obama's speech...
Syria - The government newspaper Al-Thawra criticised Obama saying: "He speaks under the banner of democracy without knowing the meaning of the word."
It accused the US president of "arrogance" in calling for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to embrace democracy or step down.
"He (Obama) didn't forget his arrogance in telling a sovereign country what to do ... and threatening to isolate this country if it fails to do as it is told."
Iran - "The pro-Israeli remarks by the US president comes despite his acknowledgment that a new generation has emerged in the Muslim world demanding 'change' that cannot be denied. Recent popular protests in Middle Eastern and North African countries have included numerous expressions of anti-Israeli and anti-US feelings." Press TV
Hamas -"The (Arab) nation does not need a lesson on democracy from Obama," said Hamas spokesman in the Gaza Strip, Sami Abu-Zuhri. "Rather, Obama is the one who needs the lesson given his absolute endorsement of Israel's crimes and his refusal to condemn Israel's occupation. We will not recognize the Israeli occupation under any circumstances," the Hamas spokesman said, while adding: "We object to intervention in our internal affairs."
