If you thought draft dodging from the seculars was on the rise, then IDF enlistment data shows it's been kicked into overdrive. There could be several reasons for this:
1. Tel Aviv seculars are notoriously lefty and life inside the bubble is so rosy they no longer see any need to serve their country.
2. Tel Aviv seculars are notoriously anti-religious, the ever increasing rise of religious soldiers in the IDF particularly in the highest positions of command, means they no longer really want to serve their country.
3. Tel Aviv seculars are notoriously care-free, party animals and are possibly too drunk/stoned to be fit to serve their country.
4. All of the above.
Never the less, I'm sure we can expect death threats with white powder sent through the door of every secular who does not enlist (and Meretz politicians of course!). There will no doubt be a plethora of angry, foul mouthed rants against them right here on the JC, which will go ignored by the moderators. Oh and we can expect Telegramsam to chip in against them during half-time at White Heart Lane on Shabbat.
Why am I so convinced of this? Well you see, all of the above occurs against the Haredim, some of whom do not serve. However, those who do not serve, are not seeking to be free to "get stoned" and party. Instead they study the word of Hashem, pray to Hashem to protect our soldiers and ask for his assistance and help. Indeed, in Moshe Rabbeinu's day the Torah tells us that only half the warriors went out to battle, the other half stayed and prayed for victory. This is the legacy of Am Yisrael.
