The good news is we are in a bronze medal play off vs Canada on Tuesday.
The bad news is we got completely turned over by Israel this morning.
I think I need a bit more time to think about why we got smashed today but I do think that playing at 11am is a bad time for us, as the day is reaching its peak temperature as we are tiring and being from such a temperate climate, we are just not good at dealing with it. It was about 34 degrees today, so really, really hot. Our play off match is at 4pm, so the heat will be subsiding as the game progresses.
We also knew before kick off that we had made it to the play off because Australia only managed a 1-1 draw with Brazil and Israel knew that if they could beat us by a few goals, they could make it into the gold/silver play off which they did. Canada will be disappointed with us since they held the USA at bay somewhat, losing only 3-0 to them.
Collectively, Israel are a pacey side and their movement off the ball was very good. They deserve the chance to play the US for the title.
I started the game and played 72 minutes. I was happy with my passing and movement but not so content with my marking and need to think about that. It was really tough to play in the heat, but I was delighted to start a game at last and feel like a proper Maccabian now.
